One of Saskatchewan’s musicians received the country’s highest honour today: the Order of Canada.

John Arcand, the Master of the Metis Fiddle, and 42 other Canadians were in Ottawa this morning to take part in an investiture ceremony.

Arcand was recognized for his lifetime of work preserving and promoting Metis culture through fiddling.

Governor General Michealle Jean called Arcand a musical ambassador for his culture.

Jean also noted he is considered a driving force behind the preservation of unrecorded Metis songs — and is credited for inspiring others to carry on the Metis culture.
