Ice fishing huts in Northern Saskatchewan must come off the lakes no later than the end of March.
As the ice fishing season quickly comes to a close, the Ministry of Environment is asking anglers to prepare to move your shelter prior to March 31.
“Spring weather can be unpredictable, leading to unsafe ice conditions, sometimes earlier than expected,” said a Ministry press release. “Owners must remove all structures and litter from the ice. Shelters may not be left on the shore and must be transported away. Abandoned shelters pose an unnecessary risk to everyone who enjoys our lakes in the summer. Pieces of shelter can cause injuries and litter our shores.”
Shelters on lakes south of Highway 16, must be removed before March 15.
