The Piwapan Women’s Centre will be hosting a women’s wellness conference this month.
The Women’s Wellness Conference is held as a way to celebrate a late International Women’s Day, which is tomorrow.
“The Women’s Wellness Conference is starting on March 17 at 6:30 p.m. and we’re going to have a supper and some entertainment, then on Saturday we have some self-care activities in the morning and afternoon and we have a guest speaker coming up, and in the evening we have a Bear Grease play coming, and on Sunday is program information and safety programming, and then we have the fish derby hosted by the town of La Ronge,” said Executive Director of Piwapan Women’s Centre Karen Sanderson.
The event’s guest speaker on Saturday will be discussing how she uses her artwork for healing. “Our guest speaker is Lana Johnstone; she runs Rustic Art; she does painting on woodwork; and she’s going to be telling us her story about her journey through trauma and intergenerational trauma and how she has come to use her artwork for healing,” explained Sanderson.
During the three-day conference, events will take place in different areas. “On March 17, we’re hosting the supper and entertainment at the JR Hall; on Saturday morning and afternoon, we’re hosting it at the Elks Hall; then we move back to the JR Hall for the play; and then on Sunday everything will be at the JR Hall,” said Sanderson. “Registration is free, and they can email our administrative assistant, or they can call her at 306-425-3909. It’s on the poster there; it’s all free, and we do have a cap of 150 due to the Elks Hall maximum capacity.”
