MNS Election Forgery Case Delayed Another Year

Three men accused of forgery from the 2004 Metis Nation of Saskatchewan election will wait another year before appearing before the courts.

Former MNS president Dwayne Roth, Brian Amyotte, and Lyle Lee were supposed to have their preliminary hearing this month in order to determine if there is enough evidence to send their case to a trial.

However, Amyotte and Lee had to get new lawyers, so the prelim has been postponed until April 2009 –- nearly five years after the controversial election that was allegedly rigged with dead people casting ballots.

The Crown estimates that if there is enough evidence to take these men to trial, that won’t take place until 2010 –- six years after the election.
