The Prince Albert Grand Council (PAGC) is remembering a fallen firefighter.
In a media release sent out Wednesday afternoon the tribal council paid their respects to the late Gordon Norman Roberts. Roberts died while responding to a fire call in Grandmother’s Bay this week.
In their statement the PAGC gave their condolences to Roberts family, friends and colleagues. The statement added Roberts would be remembered as a hero who gave his life in the line of duty.
PAGC Grand Chief Brian Hardlotte said Roberts was not only a decorated firefighter but also an accomplished athlete and also served his community working as a school maintenance worker as well as working as a director of public works. He added the fallen firefighter was a great role model for the entire Lac La Ronge Indian Band (LLRIB). The PAGC Grand Chief said Roberts will be remembered.
“His contributions and legacy will be remembered and cherished by all who knew him,” said Hardlotte.
A wake service for Roberts is set to go Thursday evening in Stanley Mission. The funeral is scheduled to go on Friday afternoon in Stanley Mission at Holy Trinity Anglican Church.
In recognition of Roberts’s service the La Ronge Regional Fire Department along with the PAGC are flying their flags at half mast.
