The Northern Village of Ile-a-la Crosse has declared a local state of emergency, effective immediately.
A mandatory evacuation has been issued for the elderly, pregnant women, people with respiratory issues, and families with children two and under due to heavy smoke in the community.
Residents remaining in the community are advised to be prepared in the event of a community-wide evacuation.
The village asks residents to have their vehicles fueled and bags, toiletries, and medications packed in the event of an evacuation.
All residents evacuating are asked to register at the Sakitawak Events Centre starting today at noon. Those who have already left the community are still required to register and are asked to call 306-833-9023 or 639-832-7788 to do so. Evacuees must register to be able to access support.
The village of Ile-a-la Crosse as well as the SPSA are currently arranging charter buses and awaiting confirmation on locations for evacuees. Updates can be found on the community’s Facebook page.
