Two organizations are coming together to host an event in La Ronge this weekend.

The Saskatchewan British Car Club, along with the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 371, are organizing an event that will see a vintage car show held in the community.

Shaune Lapworth, President of the Legion, says that the two groups met in May to organize the event. “Every Summer the Saskatchewan British Car Club picks a place to go around Saskatchewan; they do two big trips a year around western Canada; one is a big trip where they drive out to BC, the other is a local trip somewhere in Saskatchewan, and so for the past couple of years the executive kind of mentioned to me saying we’d like to come up to La Ronge, and so this year we met back in May, and I said, Is this the year? And he said, “Sure, let’s make it happen,” said Lapworth.

The cars taking part in the event will be travelling to La Ronge from Regina, Saskatoon, and Prince Albert. Lapworth explained that they have reached out to some community members to bring their vintage cars but said residents who did not receive a call are more than welcome to bring their vehicle to showcase.

“If somebody has fallen through the cracks that we don’t know of, than for sure, motorcycles, special interest, vintage snowmobiles, old wooden boats, anything that’s of automotive interest that’s unique, special interest, hotrod, something that you don’t see every day, something that’s clean, and something that would be a nice display down at Patterson Park, we’d certainly invite whoever if we missed somebody to come on down and bring their item,” said Lapworth.

The Royal Canadian Legion will also be hosting a second event this weekend. Lapworth said that he hopes the legion will be able to raise some money from this weekend’s second event called, “Thank Gosh It’s Friday”. “I’m hoping to raise a little bit of money for the local legion, so Friday night starting at 5 till probably around 8 we’re going to have what’s called a T.G.I.F., Thank Gosh it’s Friday, years back the legion and other groups used to host this fundraiser, so we’re going to have burgers, salad, and a beer for $10, and hopefully we’re going to make good money. It depends on how many people come out, but the intention is to maybe make a little bit of money, so we’ll feed the crew that comes up plus anybody from the community that wants to come out for this at the legion,” said Lapworth.

The Saskatchewan British Car Club’s car show will be held this Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at La Ronge’s Patterson Park, with the T.G.I.F. event taking place Friday night from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
