One of the people charged in the death of Megan Gallagher has seen his charge of aggravated assault elevated to manslaughter.
Thomas Sutherland was scheduled for a preliminary hearing this week for a charge of aggravated assault.
However, instead of the hearing, that charge has been elevated to manslaughter and a trial will be scheduled in the coming weeks.
Sutherland also faces a charge of indignity to human remains.
Gallagher was killed in September 2020, 9 people have been charged in relation to her death – four with first-degree murder, one now with manslaughter, another who was charged with aggravated assault saw his charge stayed, and three others have been convicted of indignity to human remains.
One of the people accused of first-degree murder, Robert Thomas, was committed to stand for trial last month.
More preliminary hearings for the accused are scheduled in the coming months.
