Northern First Nation Elects New Chief

The Buffalo River Dene Nation has a new chief, at least for the time being.
The band held a by-election on Friday for the position because former chief Louis Chanalquay resigned in August after holding the job for three-and-a-half years.
Debbie Billette won the by-election in a landslide, and is now chief.
John Montgrand was the other candidate.
Buffalo River will hold another vote for chief in February when the band holds its general band election.
