The University of Saskatchewan is in need of patients to assist its dental therapy students in Prince Albert.

The University launched their Bachelor of Science in Dental Therapy program in the fall semester of 2023. The Dental Therapy program is currently being taught at four campuses including Regina, Saskatoon, Prince Albert and La Ronge.

The Prince Albert campus on Central Avenue is now turning to the public to help students with the hands-on learning side of the program by receiving dental care services at reduced costs. Some of the services provided include check-up exams, x-rays, fillings and more.

“The students start out practicing on models, simulated teeth, and electronic simulations but they have to translate that to working on patients,” said Director of the Dental Therapy Program Dr. Gerry Uswak. “That’s why patients are the life blood of the dental therapy program.”

All services performed by the students will be under close supervision of licensed Dental Therapists allowing patients to receive high quality dental care at a fraction of the usual cost.

“This is a win/win for the students and the public. People can receive the dental work they need at a reduced cost, while our students gain invaluable hands-on experience to become the next generation of skilled Dental Therapists.”

Residents of Prince Albert and surrounding areas interested in becoming a new patient can call 306-765-3900 to schedule a screening appointment.
