Avid outdoors man and owner of NorthSask Eco-Adventures Matthew Maurer has launched a new website that rents out all necessary equipment for ice fishing.
It costs approximately $1200 for all the ice fishing gear needed to fish comfortably, which might not be feasible for many individuals wanting to get out this season.
Rods, shelters, and bundles for groups are now available to rent on Maurer’s website IceFishingRentals.ca.
“My idea was to encourage local people to be able to go out, but also to being able to provide that opportunity to visitors because a lot of people come to La Ronge and northern Saskatchewan to visit family and friends in the wintertime,” said Maurer.
Maurer planned to open his new business in mid-November but due to the warm early winter season in La Ronge, he was delayed until this month. Now with the cold starting to kick in, Maurer expects the amount of people renting ice fishing gear to rise.
Maurer explained there’s also potential for him to rent out some summer fishing gear this year.
“More of the bigger expensive equipment, fish finders, underwater cameras, things like that and it’s going to target people that come in and maybe they have their own but forgot to bring it or they just want to try it out, instead of spending $600 they can pay a tenth of that cost to try it out,” Maurer said.
You can explore rental options at Icefishingrentals.ca. Delivery is also available for purchases of over $50 within the community.
