The Coroner’s Inquest into the mass stabbings on James Smith Cree Nation is set to get underway this morning.
The inquest will be looking at the events of the Labour Day weekend in 2022 where 11 people were killed and numerous other injured on the First Nation and in the Village of Weldon.
A Coroner’s Inquests aims to determine the facts of a specific event including the identities of the people who died and under what circumstances. At the end of the inquest the Coroner’s jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing similar deaths in the future.
The inquest is being held at the Kerry Vickar Centre in Melfort.
