Trappers Significantly Reduce Number Of Pelts Sold

According to statistics compiled by Saskatchewan Environment, northern trappers marketed far fewer pelts last fur season than the year before.
Last season, 22,238 pelts were sold by northern fur harvesters — the lowest total in recent memory.
The previous season, 40,419 pelts were marketed by northern trappers.
But government fur specialist Mike Gollop says those figures don’t necessarily mean there’s been a drop in harvesting activity.
Gollops says trappers might simply be hanging on to their pelts until prices improve.
He notes the issuing of fur licences in the north has remained consistent for several years, including last season.
