Level Of Aboriginal Input On Land Sale Questioned

The NDP critic for First Nations and Metis Relations says he is concerned about an apparent lack of consultation related to this month’s sale of 1.6 million acres of Crown land in the province.

Warren McCall notes both the FSIN and a member of the Metis community have spoken out about the sale.

McCall wonders why that is happening when, in announcing the sale, the Saskatchewan Party government stated that consultations had taken place all over the province.

He says the sale will limit the amount of land available to First Nations through the Treaty Land Entitlement process.

The minister responsible for the file, Bob Bjornerud, wasn’t immediately available for comment.
