Aboriginal Reps On Enterprise Saskatchewan Teams

A number of people representing northern and Aboriginal groups have been named to the recently-announced Enterprise Saskatchewan sector teams.

 

The provincial government has launched 18 sector teams with about nine members each, specifically dedicated to a sector of the province’s economy.

 

They’ve been asked to help the provincial government develop policies to build competitive advantages and reduce barriers to growth in Saskatchewan’s economy.

 

First Nations Bank of Canada board executive chairman Keith Martel will be the chair of the Financial Services sector team, while Saskatchewan Indian Institute of Technologies president Randall Morris is in charge of the Commercialization and R & D Services sector.

 

Meadow Lake Tribal Council Chief Helen Ben is serving in the Home Building sector team, Canoe Lake First Nation Chief Guy Lariviere has been selected to sit on the Forestry sector team, Wahpeton Dakota First Nation Chief Cyrus Standing has been pegged for the Co-operatives team and former Muskoday First Nation Chief Everette Bear has been chosen for the Agriculture team.

 

Two representatives of Lac La Ronge Indian Band subsidiaries — Terry Helary with Northern Lights Foods and Al Solheim with Kitsaki Management — will serve on the Agri-Value and Minerals teams, respectively, while Trevor Ives with the Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation will sit on the Foresty sector team.

 

Other appointments of note include NorSask Forest Products CEO Allen Brander in the Forestry sector team, Athabasca Developments Association chair Glen Strong in the Transportation and Logistics team, Roland W. Duplessis of the Clarence Campeau Development Fund in the Financial Services team, Eagle Drilling Services owner Derrick Big Eagle in the Energy sector team and Saskatchewan Native Theatre Company general manager Donna Heimbecker in the Arts and Culture team.

 

Sector team chairs had their first meeting with the Enterprise Saskatchewan board and Premier Brad Wall yesterday.
