Long-Awaited Bus Service In Northwest Finally Here

Bus service was launched in northwest Saskatchewan today for people needing transportation to and from Prince Albert.

 

It sees a 27-seat bus pick up residents in La Loche, Buffalo Narrows, Ile-a-la-Crosse and Beauval and then take them to Prince Albert.

 

The bus then turns around and makes a return trip on the same day.

 

The minister responsible for STC, Ken Chevaldayoff, says his ministry opened the route to give local residents more access to employment, education and medical services.

 

He says the government is optimistic it will be financially viable.

 

The chief of the Clearwater River Dene Nation is pleased with the introduction of the new bus route.

 

Roy Cheecham says some of his band members go to Prince Albert for medical appointments and the new service is just one more option open to them.

 

The manager of the Buffalo Narrows Esso is also pleased by the new service.

 

Myrtle Clarke says the entire community of Buffalo Narrows will benefit with the new route.

 

The service runs on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.

 

It departs La Loche at 9:00 a.m., Buffalo Narrows at 10:10 a.m., Ile-a-la-Crosse at 10:55 a.m. and Beauval at 11:55 a.m. before arriving in Prince Albert just before 4:00 in the afternoon.

 

The bus then heads back at 5:00 p.m.
