Representatives from the provincial government were in Onion Lake Cree Nation on Tuesday announcing 15 new addiction treatment spaces.
The new detox beds will be added to the Cree Nation’s Ekweskeet Healing Lodge to help members access withdrawal management services.
“The 15 detox beds is a game-changer for the members of Onion Lake Cree Nation,” Chief Henry Lewis said. “The need for these beds is substantial and for anyone that has been contemplating their journey to healing and wellness, the support provided through these services is an excellent first step.”
According to the province, the new beds in Onion Lake bring the total number of new addiction treatment spaces in the province to nearly 200.
The province says its commitment is to add 500 addictions treatment spaces across the province in the coming years.
