The Saskatchewan Health Authority is sending out a reminder to northerners to update their COVID-19 vaccinations.
SHA said that although COVID-19 cases are nowhere near pandemic levels, they are still popping up around the province.
“It’s important for us to remain vigilant, as we need to keep up vaccination rates and ensure that we have good hand washing and that we’re staying away from other people if you are feeling sick,” said Dr. David Edward-Ooi Poon, Medical Health Officer, Northern Medical Services.
SHA stated that Saskatchewan residents can receive one additional COVID-19 XBB 1.5 vaccine as long as it’s been more than six months since their last one or six months since their COVID-19 infection.
“Now think of it more like your flu shot because each year COVID will change a little bit, and so it’s helpful for those that are the most vulnerable to get the latest immunization and the best protection,” explained Poon.
Individuals who are eligible for COVID-19 vaccinations include adults over 65, people six months of age and older who are moderately to severely immunocompromised with medical conditions, and adults 18 to 64 years old residing in long-term care facilities, personal care homes, and congregate living settings that have residents 65+ years.
People in the La Ronge area can get vaccinations by dropping into the La Ronge Health Centre on Mondays from 9 a.m.–12 p.m. or 1 p.m.–4 p.m., or by scheduling an appointment by calling 306-425-2422.
