The Aboriginal Peoples Television Network (APTN) has announced that Creeson Agecoutay is their new News at Noon National Newscast host.
Agecoutay is from the Cowessess First Nation in Treaty 4 territory. He has been working in the industry for over sixteen years and has traveled across the country covering all types of stories. He is happy to now call Winnipeg home.
“There are so many Indigenous stories not being covered and with an Indigenous reporter I find that Indigenous people feel more comfortable to talk to us to tell us their story. Even the Chief and Council feel more comfortable talking to us,” APTN National News Host and Producer Creeson Agecoutay explains.
The APTN News at Noon is a brand-new cast that has come during a time when other media outlets have pulled their noon news casts.
“There is more room for more stories, more content, more updates, the opportunities are endless, and we have more time for all different guests on the show as well,” said Agecoutay.
There is a need for more Indigenous journalists in the industry.
“I’m a big supporter of Indigenous journalism and Indigenous reporting,” said Agecoutay. “I am always available, and I always want to support more Indigenous journalist. We need Indigenous reporters in every newsroom across this country.”
The News at Noon Newscast broadcasts on the APTN Channel on all Canadian cable and satellite television providers, streamed on their APTN News YouTube Channel, and updates can be found online at APTN.ca.
