Arson Charge Laid Following Reserve House Fire

The RCMP have charged a 39-year-old woman with arson in relation to a house fire the Mounties say was intentionally set in Grandmother’s Bay on Saturday.

Doreen Nora McKenzie made her first court appearance yesterday in La Ronge.

The RCMP say McKenzie was the sole occupant of the residence when the fire was set, but was not injured.

The damages have been estimated at over $100,000.

The house was owned by Lac La Ronge Indian Band.

McKenzie will make her next appearance in court on January 27th in Stanley Mission.
