The 2nd annual Crystal Meth and Fentanyl Overdose Awareness Walk to Regina from Muskoday has started.
On June 10, the day started off in a good way with a pipe ceremony and a pancake breakfast at the band hall to kick-off the journey. The community leaders attended, lead, and started the walked with the group. The community fire department also lead the group out of the community.
“We know there is a lot of crystal meth around and nobody is really talking about it, and when people do talk about it, they always put people down who have this addiction, and we want to bring it out so people will start talking about it. I think the more we talk about it, the more people become aware of it, more people will acknowledge it, and maybe people will start to want to have a different lifestyle and choose a different lifestyle,” explained Erica Hennie.
The walkers will travel over 350 kilometers to the Regina Legislative Building and make it to their destination by June 18.
“It’s open to everybody; anybody who wants to join the walk can join,” said Hennie.
They are traveling on Highway 3 during the day and have an escort vehicle that is highly visible and decorated with posters that bring awareness to the drug overdose crises happening in communities.
