A 15-year-old boy will receive no additional jail time for his role in the violent death of a teenager from Wollaston Lake.
Yesterday in Prince Albert Court of Queen’s Bench, the teen pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the death of Dean Josie.
The youth also apologized for his action.
Josie died in September 2007 after being swarmed by a group of teenagers near Carlton High School in Prince Albert.
The judge gave the unidentified youth credit for the 14-and-a-half months he has already served in a youth detention facility.
He also ordered the youth to be placed on probation for one year.
The youth’s lawyer, Morris Bodnar, says his client has tried to come to grips with what he’s done.
Bodnar says this is the first time he has seen a person make so much progress while spending this length of time in youth custody — adding the youth “has probably matured five years in the last year”.
Three more young people will go to trial in May on second-degree murder charges.
Their trial could take over a month.
Two other teens arrested in connection to Josie’s death pleaded guilty to assault charges this past April.
