A woman from North Battleford faces charges following a weapons seizure on Island Lake First Nation.
Meadow Lake RCMP say they went to a residence in that community on July 18 in relation to an ongoing investigation to arrest 25-year-old Tonia Cantell. She was wanted by Loon Lake RCMP for firearms-related charges.
When police arrived at the residence, Cantell was located and resisted arrest but was brought into custody without further incident.
Continued investigation resulted in officers locating and seizing a loaded rifle, a pellet gun, ammunition, a machete, bear spray, brass knuckles, and a double-edged knife.
Cantell faces the following charges:
- One count, unauthorized possession of a prohibited firearm.
- One count, possession of a weapon at an unauthorized place.
- One count, unauthorized possession of firearm/prohibited weapon or restricted weapon.
- Twelve counts, possess weapon contrary to order.
- One count, resist/obstruct peace officer.
Tonia Cantell appeared in Meadow Lake Provincial Court yesterday.
