The 2024 iteration of the Tony Cote Summer Games kicked off in La Ronge on Sunday.

James Smith Cree Nation hosted the most previous games in 2022.

Over the past week lance runners from James Smith and the Lac La Ronge Indian Band made the journey north from Saskatoon to La Ronge to prepare for the games.

Sunday’s opening ceremony featured a grand entry of all competing teams, the passing of the lance, and speeches from dignitaries and athletes.

Athletic events at the games will get underway on Monday with croos-country, soccer, and softball events set to get under.

Each night, during the games, there will be a medal presentation at LLRIB’s downtown urban reserve in La Ronge.

The games run until August 16.
