The Community Arts Mentorship Program (CAMP) is getting ready to host the 10th annual Doylefest.
Doylefest is a family-friendly music festival and fundraiser that all started as a birthday party for CAMP’s founder, Eliza Doyle.
“I was turning 32 on a Saturday, and I didn’t know what to do, and I had just bought some land outside of Asquith. My friend said, ‘Why don’t you just throw a party on your land?’ and I said, ‘Yes, okay, that sounds great’ so I started inviting people, and pretty much everyone I know are musicians, so then they said, ‘We should play; you can make a mini festival out of it,” explained Doyle.
Along with the dozens of musical performances, there will also be a children’s area, a vendor market, and a disc gold tournament.
‘There’s a disc golf course at the regional park, so we have Chesterfield, from one of the bands, and he’s actually putting on a how-to-play disc golf workshop, so you can go and try your hand at it and then sign up for the tournament on Saturday,” said Doyle.
All proceeds raised at the event will go directly to CAMP to support their programming across Saskatchewan. CAMP’s goal is to bring more music and art experiences to remote and underserved communities through kid’s camps, music teacher training, and trauma and cultural sensitivity training.
Doylefest has grown every year since the first festival and has had to upgrade to a bigger area. Five years ago the festival moved to Eagle Creek Regional Park.
At Eagle Creek Regional Park, the site offers a fully serviced campground with washrooms, showers, a concession stand, playgrounds, walking trails, and both electrical and non-electric camp spots.
The festival will be held from September 6 to 8. Links to tickets and camping information can be found below.
