On December 4, Pierceland RCMP state that they were patrolling on Big Island Lake Cree Nation.

At around 8:45 p.m., officers conducted a traffic stop and investigation determined that the driver’s license was suspended.

Mounties observed a conducted energy baton in plain sight in the vehicle and arrested the driver and passenger.

During subsequent investigation, officers say they located and seized 70 grams of methamphetamine in the vehicle, some of it divided into small bags.

35-year-old Alana Ochuschayoo and 32-year-old Jimmy Kahpoonapit, both from Big Island Lake Cree Nation, are each charged with:

– one count, possession for the purpose of trafficking (methamphetamine), Section 5(2), Controlled Drugs and Substances Act;

– one count, possession of a prohibited weapon, Section 88(1), Criminal Code; and

– one count, unlicensed possession of a prohibited weapon, Section 91(2), Criminal Code.

They are scheduled to appear in Meadow Lake Provincial Court on December 9.
