Aboriginal Authors Receive Awards

Three young writers in the province are being honoured.
The Dominion Institute has declared its list of winners in the 2009 Canadian Aboriginal Writing Challenge.
A band member from the Beardy’s Okemasis First Nation was recognized in the 14-to-18-year-old category.
Sixteen-year-old Damon Cameron’s story about Aboriginal war veteran Tommy Prince was selected as a winning entry.
Meantime, 14-year-old Nelson Martell of the Waterhen Lake First Nation also won a prize for his work, entitled “Driver’s Seat”.
And 28-year-old Night Keepness was recognized among the adult contestants.
The Ochapowace band member’s story “Young, Aboriginal, Missing” was included in the winners list.
