The provincial government is applauding Cameco for being the first company to decommission and reclaim a mine site under the Institutional Control Registry.
The government brought in the legislation two years ago.
The move was made to improve the amount of environmental protection for wilderness areas that play host to minesites.
The Contact Lake gold mine operated from 1994 to 1998, near Lac la Ronge.
Decommissioning began in 1998, and wrapped up last year.
The site now qualifies to be released under the Environmental Protection Act.
Cameco has provided funds to cover the cost of any future monitoring and maintenance.
