Metis Locals Push MN-S For Duty To Consult Support

At least one Metis local president is not happy with the support his people are receiving from the Metis Nation – Saskatchewan executive when it comes to the duty to consult.
Calvin Roy, the president of the Metis local in Green Lake, says not only is the provincial government absent in providing support — he says the MN-S is not doing a good job, either.
The issue was raised at this past Saturday’s Metis Nation Legislative Assembly.
MNS Treasurer Gabe Lafond says there is money available — up to $25,000 for Green Lake — but a business proposal must be completed first.
Roy says he has very little spare time to work on a business proposal, nor is he a business expert.
However, Lafond says procedures have to be followed, because if they aren’t, the province could decide to not provide the MN-S with any duty to consult funding.
The MN-S also says it has hired a staff member to specifically help its citizens with such proposals.
