Wayne Standinghorn has been re-elected chief of the Sweetgrass First Nation.

Elections for chief and council were held Friday on the reserve.

This will be Standinghorn’s third straight two-year term.

Standinghorn received 285 votes, beating out Aaron Albert, who received 100 votes, and Constance Paskimin who got 68 votes.

Fourteen people ran for the First Nation’s six councillor positions.

Three incumbent councillors, Omer White, Bruce Paskemin and Tom Whitecalf, were re-elected.

White will be serving a third straight two-year term, while Paskemin and Whitecalf will be serving their second terms.

Gordon Albert, Clarence Thunderblanket, and Eldon Atcheynum are the newcomers to the band council.
