Premier Brad Wall’s office says he’ll meet today with a delegation protesting last week’s timber allocation in the Prince Albert region.
The sawmill in Big River didn’t receive any timber in that allocation, announced last Thursday.
The delegation left Big River at about 6 a.m. today and will arrive at the legislature at about 1 p.m, which is when the meeting with Wall is scheduled for.
Big River mayor Brian Brownfield had called for a meeting with Premier Wall, but he wasn’t hopeful it would happen.
Brownfield thinks public perception forced Wall to hold the meeting.
“I think we’ve just finally got the message across that there’s something wrong here. I mean, if we went down there (to Regina) and he’d have refused us, what would he have looked like?,” he says.
Brownfield says the meeting won’t be long. Wall’s office says he has to be in the House by 1:30 p.m.
Energy and Resources Minister Bill Boyd and Nadine Wilson, the MLA for the Big River area, will also be there.
