The Meadow Lake Tribal Council has been given $2.2-million from the federal government to create jobs in the information technology sector.

The government says the funds will not only create 18 full-time jobs, but will also enable the MLTC to provide information and communications technology services to its nine member First Nations and up to 30 additional northern Saskatchewan communities and First Nations.

Under this initiative, the tribal council will upgrade current computer systems, networks, websites, intranet sites, and databases; purchase new computers and software; and assist communities in obtaining other advanced technology solutions.

The money is coming from Ottawa’s economic stimulus package.
