Northern communities have received more training on emergency preparedness.

A number of northern Saskatchewan emergency coordinators and community leaders got together in Prince Albert recently to discuss the proper ways to communicate with the public in the event of a crisis.

David Crane, the community development worker in Hall Lake, says his community will be prepared if anything happens.

“If it’s an evacuation, or a forest fire, or a spill, or it could even be am H1N1 emergency evacuation, I was taught the different chains of command that we go through. I was taught how to organize a news release (or) a press conference immediately, to advise the public on what steps have to be taken immediately,” Crane says.

He says transparency and teamwork were the two most important themes to come out of the meeting.
