Collaborators for a new book from the Saskatchewan Indian Cultural Centre hope it will educate young First Nations people about their cultures and traditions.
The book, “Cultural Teachings: First Nations Protocols and Methodologies”, was launched last night at the opening banquet for the First Nations Language Keepers Conference in Saskatoon.
SICC president Dorothy Myo says elders played a key role in the writing of this book, which provides information about sacred objects, ceremonies and spirituality.
“There is a fine line to not share information that’s sacred and spiritual. And I think, certainly with the guidance of the elders, we were able to keep within those parameters, to be respectful of our ceremonies, our spiritual knowledge,” Myo says.
Myo says the book was done part in response to many inquiries from communities, youth and parents.
She believes the book will help teach young people what is behind etiquette.
