The community of Black Lake is one of 15 communities set to benefit under a government grant program for literacy.

The First Nation’s community literacy association will receive $70,000 for a project designed to help band members prepare for the workforce.

Instruction in the English language, computers and family literacy will all be offered through the program.

Special arrangements are also being made to provide child care and transportation for residents who wish to take part.

In the meantime, similar grants are being provided to the Ocean Man First Nation and the Saskatoon Tribal Council.

Grants worth $10,000 have also been given to the Whitecap Dakota First Nation and the northern community of Sandy Bay.
