No Nuclear Power Plant For Saskatchewan: Minister

Saskatchewan has stopped short of giving a green light to a nuclear power plant, but it isn’t putting up a permanent red light either.

Energy Minister Bill Boyd says a proposal from Ontario-based Bruce Power for a large scale plant in Saskatchewan will not move forward, and the government won’t support a recommendation from a uranium development report to speed up plans for nuclear power.

Boyd says there are lingering cost concerns.

He also suggests investment should ideally involve all three Prairie provinces, in order to be successful.

But Boyd also says SaskPower, the Crown utility, will still include nuclear power in a range of energy options for generation after 2020.
