Four northern geographic features have been named after Saskatchewan war heroes.
As of today, there is now a Dustin Wasden Island in Wasden Lake in northeast Saskatchewan.
The island was named in honour of Cpl. Dustin (Wazzy) Wasden, who was killed in Afghanistan in August 2008.
Another water body will now be known as Mattson Lake, in honour of Leading Aircraftsman Vernon Gilbert Mattson, who died during the Second World War.
A peninsula now bears the name of Cecil Mathew Kinley Morrison, who was a veteran of both world wars and made important contributions to civic government and professional associations in Saskatchewan.
In addition, the name of Trooper Lee Irwin Preston, who was killed in France during the Second World War, has been added to the official place name records for Preston Lake — originally named for his brother, Sgt. David Porter Preston.
The geo-memorial program commemorates people born or raised in Saskatchewan who gave their lives in the line of duty, as well as other people who have contributed to the province.
Nearly 4,000 geographical features have been named under the program.
