Northern Ice Road Behind Schedule

A road service coordinator is advising motorists in Fond du Lac that the ice on Lake Athabasca isn’t thick enough to drive over.
Victor Fern says the 57-kilometre stretch of road between the community and Stony Rapids also has snow on it.
But Fern is hopeful things will change by mid-January.
He says people will usually drive on the road at this time of year at their own risk — but he says the road to Shasko Bay isn’t ready yet.
Fern adds there are also slippery sections on some parts of Highway 905 between Stony Rapids and Points North.
