Metis To Elect New Northern Area Director

A call is going out for nominations in a Metis by-election in the La Ronge area.

On Feb. 17, the Metis Nation – Saskatchewan plans to hold a vote for the position of area director in Northern Region 1.

That area includes La Ronge, Timber Bay, Weyakwin, Stony Rapids and Uranium City.

The position was left vacant when the previous director, Pat Knudsen, stepped down from the position last year.

Chief electoral officer Earl Cook says an interim director has been in place for the last few months, and at the Metis Nation’s most recent legislative assembly, a motion was passed to hold a by-election.

Cook says that so far, only one person has shown interest in running.

He says nominations will be accepted until 2 p.m. Sunday.
