FNUC Funding Still Up In The Air

Efforts continue to restore funding to the First Nations University of Canada.

The school no longer has a board of governers, and concerns about the current executive have to be addressed, as well.

But FSIN Chief Guy Lonechild says a meeting is scheduled for Monday to decide on a new interim board.

The FNUC’s Student Association held a rally on Friday calling for the province to restore funding dollars to the institution.

However, Advanced Education Minister Rob Norris says the chapter is closed regarding funding for the school.

Norris said Friday: “The funding decision has been taken and there will not be funding for the First Nations University in the forthcoming year.”

The FSIN chiefs involved in education will meet on Monday to discuss how to go forward and decide on a new board of governors.

Norris will chair a summit on First Nations Education in March.
