Fraudsters Posing As Band Officials

A warning is going out to northern businesses to be on the lookout for scam artists posing to be from the Clearwater River Dene Nation.
Chief Roy Cheecham says he recently became aware of unknown individuals pretending to be from his community and attempting to defraud outside companies.
The chief says the scam artists typically tell the store owner they’re interested in doing business with them but require money up front to seal the deal.
Cheecham says the band has been working with the RCMP on this issue since they first learned of it.
He advises all companies that his First Nation does not conduct business deals in this fashion, and that anyone with questions should contact the band or the RCMP.
