A new report has been completed for the First Nations University of Canada.
The paper is essentially an overview of the school’s governance structure.
It was commissioned by the FNUC’s former board of directors which was led by chairman Clarence Bellegarde.
The interim chief operating officer of the school says he has not received a copy of the report so far.
However, Del Anaquod says he’s hoping to receive that on Sunday.
An official with the department of Indian Affairs confirmed they have received a copy and will give it an initial review.
However, INAC will wait for the FNUC to table the report with the Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations before it complete its own assessment.
FSIN Chief Guy Lonechild will consult with chiefs at a special assembly March 8th and 9th in Saskatoon.
The chiefs will be asked to ratify the report.
Lonechild says “we need to consider the Begay report alongside the All Chiefs Task Force Final Report (of) 2005 before we can determine the future of FNUniv.”
Meanwhile, a working group is meeting to discuss how the University of Regina can administer provincial funding to the First Nations University.
The FNUC funding obligations from the provincial and federal governments end on March 31.
