Residential School Survivors Meet In Prince Albert

An information session for survivors of Residential Schools is underway in Prince Albert today.

Over 200 people filed into the gymnasium at the Prince Albert Grand Council today for this morning’s opening session.

Legal analysis of the Independent Assessment Process, as well as an address by the National Residential School Survivors Society, are all expected to take place during the two-day event.

Eugene Arcand is helping organize the session.

Arcand says while the compensation process for survivors is well underway, there is still a “huge amount of unfinished business” with respect to the Common Experience Payment, the IAP and missing children.

Arcand adds a steering committee has been created to see when the Truth and Reconciliation Commission will come to Saskatchewan.

However, he says the date for the event is still a few years away.
