Ottawa May Reverse FNUC Stance: Lonechild

The chief of the Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations is hinting federal funding to the First Nations University of Canada could be restored soon.

Guy Lonechild says it appears the federal government just needed more information from all of the school’s partners — particularly in terms of the Memorandum of Understanding that was signed between the school, province, and the University of Regina.

The FNUC had its funding pulled by the province and Ottawa last month.

Since then, the province has agreed to fund the school through the U of R.

Students and staff are currently staging a live-in at the school until federal funding is restored.
