The province’s Minister of First Nations and Metis Relations is defending the decision to cut the Aboriginal Employment Development Program.

The NDP says the move was completely unnecessary, adding that the program had a high success rate.

But minister responsible Bill Hutchinson says the decision was made in consultation with First Nations.

As a result of those consultations, Hutchinson says the government has rolled out a new approach that is more focused and comprehensive.

NDP critic Warren McCall says that he would have liked to see the AEDP expanded.
