The First Nations University is cutting its casual and non-essential staff.

An estimated 25 casual employees and sessional instructors are meeting with department heads Thursday about layoffs.

Teddy Bison is a clerk with the university’s convenience store as well as a student at the school.

Bison says he’s not sure what he will do now. He says people depend on those jobs.

The university is trying to make up for a seven million dollar shortfall in their budget since the federal government withdrew funding two months ago.

The federal government recently announced three million dollars for programs only. It can not be used for operational costs or staff expenses.
