At an inquest in Prince Albert today the jury found that Montgrand died from a gunshot wound to the heart.

The jury recommended that officers try to do background checks on people they’re dealing with at the earlist opportunity.

This week the inquest heard that Montgrand was shot after charging at two police officers with a knife.

Moments beforehand one of the officers had radioed in a background check on the woman.

Information came back that Montgrand could be violent and an escape risk.

However by then it was too late.

Lawyer for the police, Mitch Holash, says the recommendation will be looked at.

Meantime the family of the deceased says they are satisfied with the recommendation but may look at further legal options.
