Wahpeton, Indian Affairs at Odds Over Funding

The Wahpeton Dakota First Nation was the scene of a protest earlier this week.

The demonstration took place during a meeting between band officials and the department of Indian Affairs about the subject of transfer payments.

The band is reportedly unhappy with the government’s proposal for a new one-year agreement, calling instead for a multi-year deal so it can better prepare its financial future.

The last contract between the two sides expired in March.
