An outbreak of illness experienced by the Dauphin Kings hockey team during their recent visit to La Ronge is the subject of an investigation by northern Saskatchewan’s population health unit.
The team believes it was food poisoning.
But the deputy medical health officer for the three northern health authorities says different possible sources of infection are being assessed, including bacteria and viruses that can be spread in food, water and air.
Dr. Monika Dutt also says there have been no findings that indicate a risk to the health of the public, adding the illnesses appear to be isolated to the hockey team.
Dutt says the investigation of this outbreak is ongoing, with the collaboration of health officials in Dauphin and other health regions.
She adds the unit will make recommendations about what follow-up action should be taken based on what is discovered.
