CTF Creates Tool For Accessing Band Financial Info

A new website has been launched that is designed to help First Nations citizens learn more about their band’s finances.

The website is the brainchild of the Canadian Taxpayers Federation, and can be found at www.reservetransparency.ca.

It gives users information about how to get financial information through the office of Indian Affairs — including band audits and the salaries of band officials.

The CTF also promises to help any applicant who is having trouble getting this information from the government.

The federation says it established this service because it “knows from speaking with whistleblowers on reserves across Canada, band offices often don’t release the documents”.

Six requests have already been posted on the site and their cases are pending.
